Local by-election:

Meet the Candidates - Pukehīnau/Lambton Ward - 25 January 2024

With local Councillor, Tamatha Paul, becoming the MP for Wellington Central, a gap on the Wellington City Council emerged for the Pukehīnau/Lambtom Ward. In response to this, we invited EKTA NZ to co-host a very-well attended ‘Meet the Candidates’ event at St Peter’s Church. Each of the seven candidates standing for election attended. Y

15th Founding Day Anniversary - Thursday 7 December 2023

We held our 15th Founding Day anniversary (aka birthday party) in St Peter’s Church on 7 December. Over 70 people RSVP’d and we had a great time. The children of Arohanui Strings played, our guest speaker Dave Armstrong spoke, and our Gratitude Awardee, Michael Person - who had become a new Dad just days before - came along to tell us more about his work with community gardens. And then we had cake!

Thank you to everyone who joined us - including the ICW team who helped make magic behind the scenes - for making the evening a wonderful celebration.

You can watch the recording of the event here, and see pictures from the evening here.

General Election: “Meet the Wellington Central candidates - 15 September 2023

ICW and VUWSA (the Victoria University of Wellington Students Association) organised this General Election candidates for Wellington Central event. With Hon Grant Robertson moving on to be a list MP, we knew this would be interesting election for ‘our patch’ - offering fresh candidates with fresh ideas!

  • Date, time & location:
    Friday - 15 September - 5.30pm at St Peter’s on Willis

These were some questions for the candidates we suggested :

  1. Will you commit to lobbying your Caucus and Coalition colleagues to undertake an

independent review of the earthquake prone building regime - policy, legislation and implementation system (as it relates to multi-owner residential buildings) in the first year as a Government?

  2. Will you commit to lobbying your Caucus and Coalition colleagues to commission work to address the cost of insurance, the failing market and review the insurance obligations under the Unit Titles Act 2010 to provide options for owners in unit title buildings in the first year as a Government?

  3. Will you commit to responding to Inner City Wellington on the outcome by 28 February 2024?

Meet the Pukehīnau/Lambton Ward candidates - ‘speed dating style’
Tuesday 30 August 2022. 6-8pm. St Peter’s Church on Willis.

Inner City Wellington Residents Association & Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association co-hosted an opportunity to ‘meet the Pukehīnau/Lambton Ward’ candidates for the upcoming Wellington City Council elections. We adopted a ‘speed dating’ style - which meant that we broke into smaller groups to meet the candidates rather than the usual “all the candidates sitting on a stage” approach.
